Typically, if my clients book their boudoir photo shoot with me and aren’t doing it just for themselves, it’s because they want to surprise their sweetheart with something extra-special. Whether it be for the Holidays, Valentine’s Day, a wedding gift, or anniversary, figuring out how to surprise someone with your boudoir photos can be tricky business! I’ve been privy to quite a number of boudoir surprises, so I’m here to give your some inspiration!
First on your To Do list is thinking of an excuse as to why you’re going to be gone the day of your shoot… an more importantly, why you’ve come back with a super-glam makeover. This is relatively easy to pull off only if (1) you don’t live together or (2) your partner is out of town. If neither of those apply, we’ve got your perfect excuse: A MAKEOVER PARTY! Women have all sorts of home parties these days (cookware, handbags, jewelry, adult novelties), so it isn’t much of a stretch to tell your guy that a friend is hosting a makeover party. The great thing about this particular excuse is that you don’t have to go home and wash your hair and makeup. Instead, maybe you can convince your guy to take you out on the town!
Now, the next bit of time is going to be tough. You know, the time between your Reveal and when it’s finally time to give the gift. Trust me, I know. For many women, having their own boudoir session done is a very liberating experience, and it’s an experience that you want to tell everyone about… especially if your partner is your best friend. I had to keep my boudoir shoot a secret for 5 months and it was excrutiating. The only advice that I can give you is to just keep thinking about how surprised he’s going to be when you present him with your smokin’ hot images!
If you need ideas on how to surprise your sweetheart with your boudoir photographs, here are my Top 3 Boudoir Surprise Ideas:
#1: The Pre-Nup.
For my bridal boudoir clients, I like to suggest presenting your Groom with your special gift right before your wedding. It’s common to not spend the night before the wedding with each other, so why not present him with his gift as you’re saying your good-byes? This calm before your wedding day is the perfect opportunity! OR you can leave instructions for the Best Man to give your hubby-to-be the gift before the ceremony. Make sure to have a chat with your wedding photographer so that they can capture his reaction on film!
#2: Hide & Seek.
This next idea is great for anniversaries! If you’re willing to put a little work into it, how about orchestrating a small scavenger hunt? At each clue location, leave a little something: champagne, massage oil, négligée… For your last clue, have it lead him to your bedroom, where you’ll have his present sitting in the middle of the bed (maybe some candles and rose petals strewn around the room). As an added bonus, you can enter the room wearing one of the outfits you wore for your photo shoot!
#3: The Big Tease.
It’s your sweetheart’s birthday and he has to work. Put a smile on his face by texting him a teaser image or two from your boudoir photo shoot throughout the day! He’s going to be extremely surprise and he’s going to have a lot of questions, but to drive him extra-crazy, DO NOT answer his phone calls or reply back to his text messages. When you see each other at the end of the day, greet him with the rest of his gift while wearing one of your boudoir outfits… or nothing at all!
You can make him work for it like I did! I took one of my boudoir photos and made a puzzle out of it. When it arrived, I stuffed each piece (along with gold star confetti) into balloons. When our 7 year wedding anniversary came around, I enlisted the help of Christy & Krystl to set the stage while we were out at dinner. On the table, I left a clue with a giant needle.
