I’ve been a boudoir photographer for over 8 years now, and I will never get over how many women put their trust in me to create beautiful boudoir images for them. It is especially flattering when other boudoir photographers (or photographers in general) want to work with me in my New York boudoir studio. Such was the case with Miss N of Lilac & Fern Photography.
The very first time I met with Miss N, we went out for coffee to talk shop. Right off the bat, I knew I liked her. She’s so peppy and positive that it’s contagious. When she mentioned that she was interested in booking a boudoir photoshoot with me, I was ecstatic! I always get nervous photographing other photographers, but I knew that we would have a blast.
New York Boudoir Studio
For Miss N’s shoot, I was fortunate enough to have Ruth Dollery on hand for hair and makeup. We caught up and did a lot of laughing. It was definitely a good start to a boudoir shoot! While Miss N was having her hair and makeup done, I setup her wardrobe (gorgeous lingerie pieces purchased at one of my favorite local lingerie boutiques, Torso Lingerie Studio) and started to plan where I would photograph her.
As a boudoir photographer that’s been on the other side of the camera, I know first-hand how nerve wracking it can be. However, since that first meeting, it was like we’d been friends for years! Being that comfortable around each other made for a boudoir shoot that was smooth sailing!
Sharing her story
Recently, Miss N reached out to me about a blog post that she wanted to write about her experience. I’m always more than excited to be able to share my boudoir work, but what I didn’t realize was the “why” behind what fuels her as a boudoir photographer.
At 15, I had a huge upset in my life, one that catapulted me to drastically restricting my food intake and cutting. It’s still so weird to say that. To say, openly, that I had anorexia, that I self-injured. But I did. I did a lot of things in those years that I’m not proud of. Worst of all, I hurt the people that loved me most. And I did it all without thinking of anyone but myself. Miss N
