In March, I was invited to attend a boudoir workshop in Las Vegas by the lovely team at Modern Love Photography. At the time, I felt like I was a point in my career where I was very comfortable with posing, lighting, and the business side of photography. What I wanted to develop more of, however, is the ability to get real, raw emotion out of my clients. I wanted to portray in my work that boudoir photography is more than just taking a picture of a beautiful woman. I wanted to be able to unleash a side in women that they may have forgotten about with time.
That’s exactly what I learned in my time with Denise and her team. Using the tools she’s learned over the years in front of and behind the camera, she was able to give me the tools to properly coach and emulate specific emotions. I was able to step out of my comfort zone and push the boundaries a bit in order to capture images that really speak to the viewer.
It was a little intimidating, I’ll be honest, but I’m so glad that I stuck with it. With practice (because it doesn’t happen overnight, folks!), I know that my work will really start to shine. In fact, my first couple sessions after the workshop were significantly more fulfilling for both my clients and myself!
