As Summer draws to a close, it's time to start prepping for another big project for the team here at Cheeky Boudoir. Last year, I was approached by Jade Ball of The Haunted Hooters Foundation to speak about the possibility of shooting a calendar of breast cancer survivors. I had never shot for a calendar project before, but I loved the idea and it was for a great cause.
Welcome to the first in a three-part series about my own experience in front of the camera!
The last time I had any professional photos taken of myself was 7 years ago, on my wedding day. To be honest, when I was younger, I got into photography because it gave me a reason to be behind the camera and not in front of it. However, after 5+ years of empowering women through boudoir photography, I felt that it was finally time for me to stop making excuses and get my booty out there.
This year, when I started making plans for my yearly trip to Las Vegas for the WPPI conference, I invited Christy and Krystl to come along. This being Christy's first time in Vegas, I know we had to do something super-special... like a photo shoot in the desert! The day previous to our desert shoot, the weather was pretty crummy and I wasn't completely confident that things would turn for the better. However, Mother Nature was on our side, because it was nothing but sunshine by the time we arrived to The Valley of Fire.
In March, I was invited to attend a boudoir workshop in Las Vegas by the lovely team at Modern Love Photography. At the time, I felt like I was a point in my career where I was very comfortable with posing, lighting, and the business side of photography. What I wanted to develop more of, however, is the ability to get real, raw emotion out of my clients. I wanted to portray in my work that boudoir photography is more than just taking a picture of a beautiful woman. I wanted to be able to unleash a side in women that they may have forgotten about with time.
I don’t always get the opportunity to post images from my boudoir sessions. Women from all over Saratoga and NY’s Capital Region come to me to celebrate a very intimate part of themselves, and they don’t always relish in the thought of sharing that with the rest of the world. I completely understand that, which is why I rarely ask my clients if I could use their images. Instead, I patiently wait until they bring it up to me (at which point I jump up and down with excitement!). Sometimes it happens in the middle of their photo shoots, sometimes it happens when they come in for their Reveal, and sometimes, it happens months and months later. There are women with certain professions that I absolutely would never expect to let me share their images. It has been my luck, however, that some of my best shots have come from these sessions! I recently had the opportunity to sit with Ms. M here and mentioned briefly that she would be okay with showing an anonymous shot from her session. I got a little giddy because there was one particular image from her session that I loved… So, ladies, be rest […]
Part of what I offer the women who book their boudoir sessions with me here in Saratoga Springs is a pre-session consultation. Not every woman takes advantage of this, but I feel it is a great opportunity for my clients to get familiar with how to get to the studio, the studio, and me. What I love about consultations is hearing the great stories of what brought my clients to my studio. Now, it isn’t my story to tell, but after meeting AB, I posted this on my Facebook page: Having the opportunity to meet beforehand, I feel, makes my clients feel more at ease during the session. And when my clients are more relaxed, I get some AMAZING photos. But don’t take my word for it, here’s what AB had to say about her session: Myla was amazing from beginning to end! I never thought that I would ever do something like this, being a plus-size woman and not being comfortable with who I was. She made me feel super comfortable from the start and I could see how it carried over to my photos. A special note also needs to go to Christy and Krystal – the hair […]
I am so excited to officially announce the winner of my 2013 Femme Competition, Ms. Katie! It was really hard to make this decision, but Katie holds an extra special place in my heart because in October of 2012, she was my very first Saratoga boudoir client! She’s such an advocate of my work and so fantastic to work with that it was a no-brainer. I don’t have concrete plans yet; however, I do have BIG ideas for Katie to help me add Pin-Up photography to my repertoire this year! Maybe even some outdoor boudoir! Who knows? To see these BIG ideas come to life, make sure you check back here or keep up with me on Facebook! If you HAVE been keeping up with me on Facebook, then you know that there are LOTS of changes coming very soon! To receive the official announcement, make sure you sign-up for my newsletter at the link on the bottom of the page! Boudoir is going to be BIG in Saratoga Springs this summer!
You have no idea how excited I am to share some the images from this sexy lady’s boudoir session! This is absolute proof that regardless of your age, you too can be as sexy as the models of a Victoria’s Secret ad! I know that I say this about all of my photo shoots, but I had a BLAST shooting with Mrs. NC! Not only is she super-friendly (a fantastic thing for this Saratoga transplant), but she brought some SEXY things to wear for her boudoir session. I mean… look at those SHOES (I believe they were a thrift store find and they still had the plastic on the bottoms when she brought them in!). When she blurted out in the middle of her session that she was going let me use her photos on my website, I just about DIED! So, without further ado… bring on the SEXY!
